New Podcast Episode: Post-Debate Malarkey Check
Will he or won't he? The Lobby Shop crew weighs in
I try not to burden Reef subscribers with too many posts, but in this case things are moving so fast that content has an abbreviated shelf life. With that in mind, if you want my extended thoughts on the post-debate fallout, where things stand for Biden, and what an alternative Democratic ticket might look like, check out our emergency episode of The Lobby Shop podcast digging into all that and more.
Parting thought as we head into the holiday. While the polling itself hasn’t been sufficiently dramatic to seal Biden’s fate, the apparent (and otherwise inexplicable) decision of the White House to hunker down and hope this all blows over has only served to confirm the impression that the President lacks the capacity and/or the fire in the belly to fight for this nomination, let alone four more years. The defiant, internal declarations that he’s not going anywhere have a familiar whiff of desperation that typically doesn’t end well. Indeed, having already been asked to contribute to one series of reactions to a theoretical exit, I can assure you pre-writes for a Biden exit are occurring at every major news outlet as we speak. And yet the party has to be careful it doesn’t do further damage to a wounded incumbent who is impervious to pressure. We may have our answer sooner rather than later; none of it seems tenable at this rate.
